With an original mintage of 238, 1857 proof cents are destined to be rare and elusive. The reverse on this gem proof is terminally toned with a very nice dark pink mostly surrounding the edges and center of the reverse. The center and around the wreath are a very subtle reddish hue which can be tough to see. The obverse on this coin is very flashy, it features a very nice original copper color and a very nice strike. The spotting on the obverse nose, neck, head, and date are what stopped this coin from being top pop. This coin is pop 8/1 and is the plate coin for the PCGS Coinfacts app.
