Item Description
Norris, Gregg & Norris was the California branch of a plumbing and hardware company from New York City. The business minted half eagles for a short time in May 1849 and many collectors consider this issue to be the first privately minted coin from the California gold rush era.
The present specimen is graded About Uncirculated 55 by PCGS, featuring original skin and patina on both sides of the coin. Minimal hairlines and contact marks are present, and the luster is a flashy yellow color. Hints of purple and lavender toning grace the rims, and the strike is deep for this issue.
